Bruce “Tog” Tognazzini has been part of personal computing from the beginning. He built his first electro-mechanical computer close to 60 years ago, worked with mainframe computers in the 1960s, and was hired by Steve Jobs in 1978, tasked with developing Apple’s first human interface. He spent 14 years doing interaction design at Apple before taking the position of Distinguished Engineer Sun Microsystems where he split his time between researching, developing, and applying futurist methodologies and his first love, inventing.
In 1996, Tog became Chief Designer at the web startup, Healtheon/WebMD, moving, in 2000, to become the third Principal at the Nielsen Norman Group, where he is today. He publishes asktog.com, has written two books, co-authored several others, and is named inventor on 57 US patents for HCI, automotive safety, aviation and camera design, with additional patents pending for the Internet of Things.
